POWERS over fisheries will be progressively handed over to the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) by the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) after an agreement is signed today.
Minister for Bougainville Affairs Simon Damarinu said this was a momentous occasion that will allow for greater control of resources by the people through ABG.
He said this would enable Bougainville to be more financially self-reliant.
“The signing of the agreement is a result of the hard work and joint collaboration of the joint technical officers who have
spent many years in seeing this event being a reality,” Damarinu said.
A delegation from NFA lead by Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources Patrick Basa will meet ABG President John Momis to sign the agreement today.
