THE soon-to-be-adopted new European Union-ACP agreement will be implemented to address climate change risks and challenges in Papua New Guinea.
European Union ambassador Jernei Videtic and Environment Conservation and Climate Change Minister Wera Mori discussed the agreement plans recently.
According to an EU delegation to PNG, both sides agreed that the the Environment Conservation and Climate Change department should play a leading coordinative role within the Government to implement the action plans.
The bilateral cooperation between the EU and PNG between 2021 and 2027, through the adoption of a new cooperation strategy would address three priority areas:

  • PA1 “our forest our future” – climate change – biodiversity nexus;
  • PA2 “water is life” – Wash; and,
  • PA3 “transparent and accountable governance”.

The PA1 is based on a team Europe approach that envisages the participation of EU member states.
The partnership is aligned with the EU green deal global ambition for climate action and biodiversity preservation.
Videtic and Mori exchanged views on the respective activities the EU and PNG plan to accomplish.
