Agriculture and livestock

Letters

IT is shocking to see agriculture and livestock, a national institution of the country with the secretary going low to discuss concept for Agriculture in Aviation with so-called consultants who are only running after the well published K5mil consultancy fee.
The concept that secretary Daniel Kombuk is trying his best to present and convince key government departments such as treasury, national planning, foreign affairs and commerce is not a new subject however he lacked due diligence and the concept is vague and with no substance as published in The National on Aug 22 (Page 16).
Some key questions are;
a. Have we already subsidised farmers in rural PNG to produce the tonnage required to meet the markets demand?
b. which market and where are we talking about?;
c. which airline company will be involved?
d. who pays for the cost of flying within and overseas with produce? and,
e. where does the commodity boards and Fresh Produce Development Agency fit in?
The secretary needs to engage with the commodity boards and realistically discuss about ways to increase the tonnage of production in coffee, cocoa, copra, vanilla, palm oil and making money for the country.
The concept is a window dressing to stay focus on benefitting from the consultancy fee of K5mil.
What kind of feasibility study are they going to undertake and is the secretary undermining his department staff.
