DEPARTMENT of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) acting secretary Dr Nelson Simbiken says his department has started working on a five-year (2023-27) national corporate plan. He said the policy was expected to be launched in the middle of next month.
Simbiken also revealed that DAL had not had a corporate plan for the last 22 years.
“We are bringing back the credibility of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock and connecting back to the people,” he said.
“PNG’s vision for 2050 is to develop and grow a number of key priority sectors, of which agriculture is one.
“Vision 2050 says that ‘PNG will develop and grow the manufacturing, services, agriculture, forestry, fisheries and eco-tourism sectors from 2010-2050’.
“The vision acknowledges both the importance of subsistence agriculture to the rural economy and the cultural lives of many, as well as the significant challenges faced by the sector including limited markets, poor infrastructure, ineffective extension services, and security and safety concerns.”
