THE Ahi Council of Women in Lae received K10,000 from the Lae joint district planning and budget priority committee for the economic empowerment of its members.

It is part of the K100,000 allocated under Lae district administrator Robin Calistus to cover the Lae council of women and Lae district youth council.

Community Development, Youth and Religion Minister and Lae MP Loujaya Toni presented the cheque to council president Tama Edward last Friday at Malahang witnessed by scores of members and their families.

Department of Community Development, Youth and Religion acting secretary Anna Solomon and executive director for office for development of women Gail Tatsi were also present with Schola Kakas, president of the National Council of Women.

Toni reminded the Ahi council that before engaging on economic empowerment activities, they should elect office bearers in an annual general meeting and produce their five-year development plan.

“Thank you to those who are already registered, those who are still doubting and sitting on the fence please follow suit, submit and get registered then we can talk about economic empowerment,” she said.
