THE Government’s support of K1 million for honeybee farmers in the Highlands will boost the sector, says Western Highlands agriculture coordinator Rex Wandi. Wandi said it was a positive sign for the honey farming industry and should encourage more people to take up bee keeping and farming. He said Prime Minister James Marape and Agriculture and Livestock Minister John Simon wanted to boost local honey production. Wandi said the K1 million funding under the Government’s agriculture intervention programme, was used to buy a vehicle, 72 beehives and 11 honey extractors. He said this was the first time the Government made a serious effort to help the industry. He said locally produced honey was being sold internationally.
