AIR Niugini Ltd is continuing its strategy to be the top airline choice in the country, according to Ground Operations and Aviation Security general manager Marco McConnell.

He said it included providing quality services by monitoring its airports and understanding some of the problems delaying aircraft departure and arrival.

McConnell said Air Niugini had come up with an initiative to improve services at airports around the country through its on-time performance awards system.

He told airline’s highlands regional conference last weekend that the airline had struggled with on-time performance.

And the introduction of the awards by chief executive officer Simon Foo had seen a change in the organisation.

“The strategy is to see where we were, where are we today, and where we are heading next,” McConnell said.

“By measuring and monitoring our performances, we are able to understand what we need to do to achieve the desired outcomes and results we are aiming for.

“This is to identify what are the challenges or barriers that may be impeding on the port managers, so we can knock down these barriers.”

Meanwhile the winner of the Air Niugini’s third quarter OTP award in Category B was Mendi, Southern Highlands.
