AIR Niugini says its passenger capacity to Brisbane has been increased to 50 a flight, but there is no limit to Cairns.
It was responding to the statement yesterday by National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning that international flights could resume but passengers must abide by strict rules.
“Air Niugini continues to fly to Brisbane (five times a week), Singapore (four times a week), and Cairns (once a week),” it said in a statement.
“Due to quarantine requirements in Nadi, Port Vila and Honiara, there are presently no scheduled flights to Fiji, Vanuatu or the Solomon Islands.”
It expects to announce the resumption of scheduled flights to Hong Kong and Manila shortly.
“Passengers will continue to be temperature-tested on entering airport terminals, provided a face mask at check-in and will need to fill in the passenger contact tracing form at check-in and the health form while onboard.”
Air Niugini said it would be offering a range of products to promote domestic tourism.
Manning said there were no restrictions on domestic travel.
He said inbound passengers from New Zealand, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, all Australian states except Victoria, New Caledonia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Nauru, the Federated States of Micronesia, Vanuatu, the Cook Islands, Samoa, Palau and Niue who had spent seven days in those countries would be quarantined for seven days at home or at a designated quarantine facility in PNG.
Those seeking home quarantine would need the controller’s approval.
Manning said all passengers coming into PNG needed to get his approval in advance.
He also said all inbound passengers also needed to complete a negative Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) Covid-19 test within seven days prior to travel.
