STATE Enterprises Minister William Duma says Air Niugini is profitable and well positioned to invest in its expansion to meet the country’s demand.
“We recognise the challenges that Air Niugini had faced over the years, but it is through these challenges that the airline has emerged stronger and more resilient,” he said during the airline’s 50th anniversary celebrations in Port Moresby on Wednesday.
“Throughout the past five decades, Air Niugini has played a vital role in connecting our communities, enabling trade and commerce, fostering social development, encouraging tourism.
“I acknowledge the unwavering commitment and hard work of the airline’s employees who have tirelessly served the airline and of course, our nation, often going above and beyond the call of duty.”
Duma thanked Prime Minister James Marape and his Cabinet for approving many of the airline’s annual operating plans enabling it to operate within approved plans.
Cabinet also approved the re-fleeting plan to buy five and lease six aircraft from Airbus, and two Boeing 787 Dreamliners to service the international routes.
He also thanked Karl Yalo, Anthony Seeto, Lady Aivu Tauvasa, and Bonny Igime as chairman, deputy cahairman and directors of the board of Air Niugini Ltd.
“Your appointments were made after very careful consideration, taking into account your qualifications and experiences and reflecting our belief that you will help bring our airline to the next level.”
Duma emphasised that safety would never be compromised by the airline.
“Air Niugini has always prioritised the safety of its passengers and crew, and this commitment remains unwavering,” he said.

  • It’s not like we have a choice really. I also do not like the customer service staff at the domestic terminal. They literally ignore you unless you are vocal. Otherwise, the staff in Madang are excellent!

  • Profitable to meet the demands!!! Then please solve the current problem of delays and cancellations first before you opt for bigger issues.
