AIR Niugini has had to reduce the number of its flights to several of its Asia and Pacific destinations as result of the threat of the coronavirus.
The airliner said this when responding to queries from The National on whether the threat of the virus had had any impact on its business.
According to Air Niugini, the changes were done based upon a review of its flight schedules to the nearby regions and that a supplementary review would be conducted in the next couple of months.
“Air Niugini has reviewed its flight schedule to Asia and the Pacific as a result of the direct impact of the coronavirus,” the airline said.
“We have adjusted and reduced a number of flights to Honiara, Manila, Singapore and Hong Kong.
“For example, Hong Kong services have been reduced to now once a week instead of the three weekly flights.
“Flights to the Federated States of Micronesia have been suspended for now.
“The next review for all these flights will be done in the next two months.”
It is understood that some of the Asian destinations that Air Niugini fly to include: Hong Kong, Kula Lumpar, Manila, Singapore and Tokyo. Meanwhile, when asked about the company’s performance in 2019, it said it would provide a separate statement at a later date.
