FOLLOWING the completion of runway repairs carried out by the National Airports Corporation (NAC), Air Niugini has now resumed its Fokker jet services to Boram Airport in East Sepik, effective Friday (Nov 12).
Since the works on the airport runway started earlier this year, Link PNG has been operating to Wewak using smaller Dash-8 aircraft with passenger limitations of 20 at a time because of the shortened runway.
Air Niugini operates daily nonstop Fokker services between Port Moresby and Wewak with additional services to be scheduled throughout the peak periods, should demand warrant it.
“The last months of restrictions at Wewak have been inconvenient for both our customers and the airline however we understand runways must maintained to the highest standard,” Air Niugini commercial general manager Dominic Kaumi said.
“We are pleased the works are now complete so we can resume our Fokker 100 jet services into Wewak Airport,” he said. “Air Niugini appreciates the public’s patience and understanding on these matters as safety is of paramount importance.”
