The PNG Accidents and Investigation Commission is still investigating how a United States-registered Lockheed Hercules aircraft wing struck the right wing of an Air Niugini Boeing 737 at Jackson International Airport last month.
Commission chief commissioner Hubert Namani said the preliminary report contained facts that had been verified.
He said the accident occurred at about 3.10pm at the freight ramp adjacent to the Air Niugini maintenance hangar.
“The leading edge of the left wing of the Hercules impacted the right wing of the Boeing 737, causing significant damage to both aircraft,” Namani said.
The Hercules freighter was being operated by Lynden Air Cargo. The Air Niugini aircraft was parked and unoccupied at the time.
The report said guidance to the Hercules was being provided by its ground personnel.
