AIR Niugini and the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority (PNGTPA) will promote the country as a tourist destination over the next two years, with a funding support of K1.5 million.
Air Niugini will support various tourism promotion programmes to boost the authority’s capacity to deliver the objectives in its strategic plans.
This was agreed to by Air Niugini chief executive officer Gary Seddon and TPA’s Eric Mossman Uvovo in Port Moresby on Tuesday.
The support worth about K1.5 million from Air Niugini will go to the production of visual promotional materials to be displayed on Air Niugini aircraft promoting PNG tourism destinations, and support travel to and from PNG by TPA staff members, travel writers, and tourism influencers.
Seddon said PNGTPA and tourism in the country needed the support of stakeholders such as Air Niugini.
“It is vital that we collaborate to develop our tourism potential in the country,” he said.
“As the national flag carrier, we are excited to support the PNG TPA in its efforts to develop PNG tourism.
“With this funding support, we will be carrying out joint marketing and advertising activities with the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority to promote the natural beauty, unique cultural attractions, historical sites and other tourism activities through various marketing mediums, as well as shine a light on SME tourism operators.
“Air Niugini has a pre-eminent role to play in the development and promotion of tourism.”
Uvovo described the partnership as a necessary tool to promote the country as a tourist destination.
He said Air Niugini and PNGTPA had recognised the importance of sustainable tourism, which created positive impacts for local communities, the environment, and the country’s rich heritage.
