WORK on the Kavieng airport in New Ireland is 65 per cent complete, says Kavieng MP Ian Ling-Stuckey.
Ling-Stuckey thanked the National Airports Corporation and the Asian Development Bank for their work on the first phase of the civil aviation development investment programme (Cadip) which ended last month.
The work around the country includes lengthening runways, strengthening aircraft pavements, constructing new terminals and making airports safe.
“I welcome the National Airports Corporation’s advice that the developments at Kavieng airport are over 65 per cent complete since starting last July,” Ling-Stuckey said.
“This project will lengthen the runway to 2,200m, install new lights and navigational aids and construct a new terminal building and public market.
“I look forward to the anticipated hand-over date in April.”
The programme includes road and bridge construction and rehabilitation development to cost K8.751 billion.
