Akunai stands by his NEC appointment

ACTING Eastern Highlands administrator Samson Akunai says he is yet to be served a formal letter of advice of his revocation which Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu announced publicly on Monday.
Akunai said he was made aware that his appointment as acting administrator had been revoked through the media.
“My appointment was done by the National Executive Council (Cabinet) and not the provincial executive council (PEC),” he said in a statement.
“Furthermore, the screening and selection process for the appointment of a permanent administrator was done last October (2017) and now before the NEC for their deliberation.
“I am appointed through an administrative process to act as the administrator of Eastern Highlands and there my job lays.”
Henganofi MP Robert Atiyafa called on the Government to intervene as a “political impasse is looming”.
The provincial council had appointed Wesley Albert as the caretaker administrator.
Atiyafa said the reasons Numu provided for the revocation of Akunai were “minor administration matters that do not warrant a revocation”.
