All bar two provinces confirm Games numbers

 ENGA and the Southern Highlands are the only provinces that have yet to confirm their numerical entries for the 2014 PNG Games.

The Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation’s acting executive director Peter Tsiamalili Junior said the workshop for the provincial team mangers held at Sir Ignatius Kilage Indoor Sports Complex in Lae confirmed that 25 sports were confirmed for the sports programme for the PNG Games to be staged in Lae.

The Games from November 16-30, are expected to attract more than 10,000 athletes and team officials from all 22 provinces. 

This is double the number expected for the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby.

Tsiamalili said 350 skilled and qualified technical officials would be engaged during the Games.

The 2014 PNG Games Host Organising Committee received a surprised when Prime Minister Peter O’Neill gave K10 million to fast track the preparations of other sports infrastructure across the Morobe capital which puts the total government contribution to K20 million to the Games.

Tsiamalili said with the support from the National Government, the PNG Sports Foundation had invested K10m into the refurbishment of the synthetic track, indoor complex, swimming pool, the netball courts and the amenities of the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium.  

Tsiamalili said the foundation’s board was grateful with the support from the government through Sports Minister Justin Tkatchencko.
