Alleged rapist to stand trial

A 37-YEAR-OLD man charged with rape was committed to stand trial at the National Court after sufficient evidence was found against him.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii committed Benjamin Janget of Tambunum village, Angoram, East Sepik, to trial.
The court heard that Janget used a knife to threaten a woman and had sex with her without her consent.
Magistrate Ganaii said the evidence needed to be tested in a trial and adjourned the case to Aug 19 for Janget’s section 96 statement.
It was alleged that Janget and the married woman from Gulf, who is a mother of three children, communicated over the phone starting a relationship through calls and texts without the husband’s knowledge.
The incident occurred last September.
The woman in her statement told police that she had marriage problems had left the husband to stay with her family in Sabama.
It was there that she began communicating with Janget, who identified himself as Jerome who worked at Air Niugini.
