A MEMORANDUM of understanding (MoU) between a nursing school in Alotau, Milne Bay, and Oil Search Health Foundation has strengthened a partnership that will help support the school’s academic development and fundamental objectives.

The MOU will enable Oil Search Health Foundation (OSHF) to provide qualified lecturers who will facilitate the training of nurses enrolled at St Barnabas School of Nursing (SBSoN).

By entering into the MOU, OSHF has agreed to conduct training based on the curriculum adopted and implemented by the school and in accordance with the standards set out by the National Department of Health (NDoH) which includes NDoH policies, guidelines and standard teaching manuals.

A suitable work plan will be jointly developed for each academic year, ensuring that nurses enrolled at SBSoN complete theory, clinical settings and rural experience training.

Chief executive for the Milne Bay provincial health authority Billy Naidi said it was great support as they worked towards building capacity at the  school.

“We have always done what we can to support the school. Their clinical attachment with us is based on our partnership and their capacity to meet our service standards and requirements without compromising patient care,” he said.

“We look forward to seeing the health foundation as part of their team.

OSHF is responsible for working with the government, non-governmental and donor partners to design and implement public health initiatives, including clinical services, community health campaigns, staff education, mentoring and support programmes, research and development.
