SIX clubs from the abandoned the Port Moresby Rugby Football Union will join the eight Capital Rugby Union (CRU) clubs to kick-start the sevens competition at Bava Park this Saturday.
CRU president John Beattie yesterday confirmed the 14 club competition to get the season under way.
“More or less it will allow the executive to gauge interest at this stage over the next four weekends,” he said.
Beattie said it was great to see all clubs under the one umbrella.
“The only issue now is how to administer the competition,” he said.
He admits that to manage 14 clubs will be quite a huge task.
This is why the CRU executives have put in place a tentative 10-team draw as well to cater for any issues that arise in terms of playing numbers for several clubs.
The competition on Saturday will see the clubs play three games each on Oval One.
While on Oval Two, women’s teams from Spartans, Brothers, Nova (Pool A) and Chiefs, Harlequins and Wanderers (Pool B) will play a one-day competition, with the final at the end of  the day.
The Under 19s will play on Oval Two.
The POMRFU clubs that have joined CRU are Defence, Juggernauts, Motuan Warriors, University Piggies, Kone Sharks and Valley Hunters.
The existing CRU clubs are Nova, Wanderers, Harlequins, Spartans, Royals, LaSallians, Southern Chiefs and Brothers.
It is envisaged that the two-day competition will start next weekend, depending on the turn-out from clubs this Saturday.
