ALMOST all Indonesian embassy staff from Indonesia and Papua New Guinea completed their second dose of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine yesterday morning, Ambassador Andriana Supandy says.
“Only one employee received his first dose today,” he said.
“In total, 28 people received their second dose.”
Andriana and his wife Ella received their final dose from Port Moresby General Hospital nurses in the embassy.
“My sincere thanks to the PNG Government, especially hospital chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi and his medical team for their vaccination services in the embassy,” Andriana said.
“I appreciate the PNG Government’s efforts and excellent assistance since the Covid-19 outbreak last year.”
Andriana assured that the Indonesian government would also take care of Papua New Guineans in Indonesia, especially to ensure the well-being of the PNG diplomatic officers and their family members.
He urged friends and colleagues of the embassy to actively participate in PNG’s Covid-19 vaccination programme.
Andriana amplified the World Health Organisation (WHO) statement that all the vaccines provided today had gone through robust clinical trials and were only approved by the WHO for use after safety and efficacy had been rigorously tested.
“It is now a common practice globally for a host country to provide the Covid-19 vaccine accessible to diplomatic corps,” he said.
“This practice has been rolled out in Indonesia, including for the PNG diplomatic personnel residing in Jakarta and Jayapura.”
