CENTRAL Amoana have bounced back into the winners’ circle after defeating Genesis 3-1 yesterday in the National Soccer League Southern conference round seven fixture at the Papua New Guinea Football Stadium.
In the other mid-week fixtures, NCD Souths defeated NCD 0 while the match between ladder-leaders Hekari United and Gulf Komara was called off yesterday afternoon due to no lighting at the venue. Hekari was leading 2-0 at the Papua New Guinea Football Stadium.
Following their 2-2 draw with National Capital District Souths last weekend, Central Amoana coach Naime Kepi said they came in with a plan to take the three points.
The Kaparoko-based side led 2-1 into the break before striker Stanley Karo’s second half strike found the back of the Genesis net sealing their win.
The Naime Kepi-coached side have maintained their second place position on the ladder with the win.
“We drew in our last game so I decided to change the game format which worked out and we got the deserving win today,” Kepi told The National yesterday.
“We made a few changes in the lineup with the inclusion of Lesley Kalai (former PNG Kapuls) as the goal keeper whose experience proved valuable to the team.
“The team’s performance was outstanding.
“I expected a win because it was vital for us to steer clear on the points ladder from the third-placed team.”
Amoana will now prepare for their round eight clash against NCD on Saturday.
“We only have two days to prepare so we’ll polish up our midfield and defence. Our attacking is okay because the players are creating more chances to score,” said Kepi.
“We need to maintain our midfield and defence which is important.”
Kepi commended Genesis for giving his side a good contest.
“I’ve advised my team that the last few games are important as teams have gotten new recruits during the transfer window period,” he said.
