AMOANA, under the Koupa Soccer Association, are optimistic of a stronger campaign next season despite finishing as cellar dwellers in the Southern Conference of the Women’s National Soccer League.
Association president Morea Vavine said soccer was not as popular as netball and cricket on the Rigo coast in Central.
“We have to start somewhere,” he said.
“I am glad our women stuck together to finish the season by attending all their matches despite the high scoring against them.”
Amoana are one of the six teams that took part in the revamped league this season.
The other clubs were conference winners Genesis, runners-up Hekari, Port Moresby City, Port Moresby Academy and National Capital District.
Vavine, who hosted a dinner after the final game, thanked all the players for representing Central in the league. He thanked the families and friends of the players for their support all season.
The team will return to Kaparoko village and prepare for next season.
