A CHARITY fund-raiser will coincide with the 6th PNG Games in Lae this week.

While the Angau Angels Fashion Extravaganza might be a name slightly over the top for a fashion show in the town, it is a show true in purpose and name.

The fundraiser is for the Angau Memorial Hospital.

Most of the 70 “models” in the show on Thursday at Lae Yacht Club were either born there or have had some sort of attachment to hospital as babies. Hence, the name Angau Angels.

The young males and females have been practising on the catwalk for five weeks at the Botanical Garden. Fashion designers from the region include Lepou of Sydney, Edwin Alba of the Philippines and Cecelia of Samoa.

Local designers include Sarah Todd Haoda’s PNGianKALA Keksii range, Anna Amos’ AA Tribal Wear and Elizabeth Taurega’s Denani range.

Hazel Navurus’ Hazel, a successful Papua New Guinean-based in the Philippines, will showcase her exotic varieties for the first time in PNG after graduating from a fashion design school.

The event is a collaboration of emerging and established designers in the region organised by PNGianKALAHaus of Fashion to raise money for Angau.

Haoda, the event director, said the occasion provided an avenue and opportunity to encourage young men and women expose their talent and build confidence to aim high.

The Angau Angels is a foundation comprising people that benefited from the hospital. The tickets are selling for K250.

Haoda thanked the Lae International Hotel, the National Development Bank (NDB) and NDB Investments for K10,000 and the National Gaming Control Board for K25,000.

Boroko Motors and SP Brewery are sponsoring door prizes. Interested companies can call Susan Muir on 4725000 for assistance and tickets.
