THE annual National Capital District Governor’s Christmas Cup tournament is set to start on Dec 20 at the Kone Tigers Oval.
Tournament coordinator Bosky Koke said Governor Powes Parkop has allocated K100,000 for the tournament which would run from Dec 20 to 30.
“Each team will pay K500 as a registration fee,” Koke said.
“We will have only 32 teams to compete and preference will be given to those teams who pay up their registration in full.”
He said the K100,000 from the governor would cover prize money for the top six teams as well as administrative costs.
Koke said the cup winners be rewarded with K20,000 and there would be consolation prizes for all teams taking part in the tournament.
Registration starts today and ends on Dec 17.
Koke said the Port Moresby suburban league has been authorised to run the tournament with assistance from the Morata off-season league. Koke said the women would also have a chance in this year’s Christmas Cup and would pay K300 for registration.
“This is an annual tournament which is into its 15th season. It is run specifically for players and clubs and their fans from the different competitions in the city to participate,” Koke said.
