MISS PNG Antonia Singut is in Fiji for the Miss South Pacific quest.
Ms Singut, accompanied by chaperone Molly O’Rourke, assistant chaperone Sian White, PNG Quest committee chairman Dadi Toka Jr and this reporter from The National, flew to Fiji for the pageant, which kicked off on Saturday.
Ms Singut is competing with nine contestants from other South Pacific countries for the title.
The pageant will continue for a week, with contestants taking part in various activities under the watchful eyes of the pageant judges, organisers, competitors from other Pacific countries and the Fijian community.
Apart from looking for the Pacific queen, there will be other special awards like Miss Personality, National Tourism, Photogenic, People’s Choice and Internet.
The new Miss Internet award will go to the contestant who receives the highest number of votes on the pageant’s website (www.misssouthpacificfiji.com). So far, Miss PNG is not far behind, running either third or fourth.
Ms Singut and her team are urging her fellow countrymen, women and friends to vote for her.
The PNG team is also taking this opportunity to try and win the bid to host next year’s pageant.
