ANY Member of Parliament can be nominated and elected prime minister in Parliament when a vote of no confidence motion is tabled, says Registrar of Political Parties Dr Alphonse Gelu.
“There are two different things. One is the election of a prime minister and the formation of a Government after a national election,” he said.
“The other one is the election of a prime minister during a vote of no confidence (where) any MP can be nominated and elected prime minister in Parliament.
“There is no law stopping this from happening. It doesn’t matter whether you are a leader of a political party or a member of a political party or an independent candidate. Any MP can be nominated and elected prime minister during a vote of no confidence.”
