Apec and who we are not

Letters

POLICE and city authorities in Port Moresby are chasing vendors and anyone selling at bus stops and in suburbs like Boroko, Manu Autoport, Waigani and others because of the Apec meeting in November.
I oppose this move.
What are we trying to hide? Our level of poverty?
Everyone knows we are below the poverty line in the world ranking.
Seeing police chase people off the streets who are trying to earn a living is a disgrace.
Why is the government doing this? Why don’t they just let the vendors be? Are they afraid of something? Is it the world leaders who they are afraid of?
That is exactly what I am thinking. They are too afraid the leaders might question them on why those people are on the street selling in order to live a life.
