Apple farmer wants govt support

A LOCAL apple farmer is hoping that the Government finds a market for locally-grown apples and regulate the pricing.
Yaring Bonny said apple farmers in Menyamya, Morobe, watched their apples rot because of a lack of market, or had to be sold at lower prices.
“Selling apples on the street or market is very hard for me because, I do not make the money I am supposed to earn,” he said.
“Selling the apple for only K1 or K2 (is not fair).
“I did a lot of hard work to grow the apple, but the money I earn is less.”
Bonny, a third-year student at the Balob Teachers College in Lae, said the earnings from apple sales helped him to pay his bus fare, lunch and other needs.
“Providing a market will not stop the importation of apples,” he said.
