Appointment in ‘final stage’

PRIME Minister James Marape says the appointment of commissioner of police is in the final stage.
Marape in response to questions about the delay in the appointment of commissioner, said the process with National Executive Council (NEC) had not been completed.
“We will bring it to the very next NEC. It is in the final stage of being completed so I cannot preempt the outcome of the process,” he said.
“We are getting the Department of Personal Management to expedite the process.
“We want to do this at the earliest before the close of accounts.”
Police Minister Bryan Kramer had said all submissions to the NEC including the appointment of the police commissioner had been put on hold until the Government passed the 2020 Budget.

  • pleased do it quickly because there are a lot of pressing issues that a permanent appointment of COP has to make in the capacity as the CEO of the RPNGC for it’s betterment.

  • A lot of arrests of top profile perpetrators of the law. They are currently running around freely, feeling elated and invincible. This person appointed must have the strength and fortitude to effect arrest and ensuring the accused is brought to the court of law within the confines of the law.
