Appointment invalid

THE Papua New Guinea Teachers Association (PNGTA) had recently elected its new executives.
This includes the position of the president.
The new president elected is a retired teacher.
Retired teachers are no longer members of the teaching service.
As such, they should not have been allowed to run for the election.
The question remains as to why he was allowed to run for the president’s seat knowing well that he was already retired by the Teaching Service Commission.
His election should therefore be declared null and void on the basis that he being a non-member of the teaching service lacks the competency and the legal capacity to represent members of the teaching service who are union members.
Therefore, this is a public call for the 65,000 teachers nationwide inclusive of the 23,000 union members not to recognise this unlawfully elected president.
Moreover, the Teaching Service Commission and the Education Department is advised not to recognise the new illegally appointed president and his new executive.
