Appointments should be done on merit

Letters

IN Dec 2019, David Manning was appointed as Royal PNG Constabulary Commissioner.
Gari Baki was sacked by former police minister and Madang MP Bryan Kramer. Why?
Many people have raised concerns about Manning’s appointment as police commissioner.
Kramer made a wrong choice.
Many qualified applicants never succeeded because of nepotism.
Kramer said Manning was the successful applicant qualified for the top police post.
Was he right? Last Friday, the National Court ruled that Manning’s appointment was unlawful due to the absence of a tertiary qualification.
Is Kramer the prime minister?
Is he the boss of the National Executive Council?
On Friday, Kramer, who is now the Justice Minister, made his intention known for amending laws to qualify NEC’s decision to appoint the police commissioner which the court nullified.
Is it a tactic to bend and twist the National Court decision?
If this goes back to NEC for amendment, we know that this Government is corrupt because it encourages nepotism and corruption in appointing people of their choices and not on merit.
We want good governance and not the kind where one man makes all decisions which are not necessary legal.
Appointments should be done on merit so we have confidence in the Government.
