OIL Search has made a significant investment in a technical feeder programme to its apprentice programme, country manager Leon Buskens says.
He said the targeted pre-apprentice programme provided a significant pathway for capable people, mostly from Oil Search’s project impact areas, providing a second channel for entry.
Buskens said Judy Sasa, one of two female trainees in the 2020 Oil Search pre-apprentice programme graduated with a honourable achievement award.
“We sought to improve literacy with the delivery of children’s books to more than a thousand students in Hela, cultivated promising talent by offering our Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) scholarships programme, sparked interest in technical fields through our roadshow at the PNG University of Technology and advanced the trade career development of 15 men and women through our apprentice programme, a technically intensive course designed to provide trainees with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to succeed in their field,” he said.
