ARMED men kidnapped 10 people, including three girls at a remote logging camp and are demading a K1.6 million as ransom from the logging company in Western, acting South Fly police commander Snr Insp Ewai Segi says.
“These hostages (seven men and three girls) are local employees at the Kamusi logging camp in the Bamu local level govermnet,” he said.
“This is the second kidnapping within two months.
“The same suspects mostly from Hela and Southern Highlands, kidnapped six Asian workers and were paid K300,000 before releasing the expatriates.” Snr Insp Segi said the suspects were armed with guns and knives when they raided the camp.
“They then forced their hostages into a vehicle and headed towards Wawoi Falls at the border of Western, Southern Highlands and Hela.
“They are now keeping these hostages there and demanding money before releasing them,” Snr Insp Segi said.
“We need help from the provincial government to track down these suspects.
“We need support from the police in Southern Highlands and Hela to search for these suspects.
“These suspects from the Komo-Margarima electorate (Hela) and Nipa-Kutubu electorate (SHP) are just opportunists preying on the logging company to get money.
“These suspects are also involved in a guns-for-drugs smuggling ring between Australia and Papua New Guinea.”

  • These kidnappers should be treated as terrorists. Violent crimes in PNG is escalating to a higher level. This a very worry sign.

  • They should be flushed out immediately and those Hela, Enga and Southern Highlanders migling around in the logging camps removed to their lawless societies.

  • This is an emerging trend in criminal activities in PNG. Perpetrators of kidnapping and ransom must be dealt with severely when caught or be given the death penalty through our justice system.

  • send in the Army to deal with them.. shoot to kill this animals, whether pigs or dogs, deserve to die.

  • This is a wake up call for the Provincial and the National Governments to equip the Police and PNGDF personnel based in Daru with much needed resources to attend to such violent crimes promptly. DO NOT turn a blind eye to this kidnapping for ransom incident lightly but act with urgency as lives of innocent people kidnapped are at serious risk.

  • This kidnappers are tracking through Mt Bosavi into Westurn. They have being doing this for quiet some time. There is no police there. These group of men are from Komo and not Nipa Kutubu. I was informed of it by the villagers last Saturday. I suggest the police and army position at a village (Kugu Village) where they will track back as there is no other road from Wawoi Falls into Bosavi. I can be contacted if need assistance.

    • Mark, if you know some of their identities, you can pass on the info to the police.

  • You cannot risk the security forces. These men know the terrain better than anyone.
    Local knowledge is important.
Get the locals and make sure they are paid for their service.
They will help our local police and Milliary personnels (if sent) to track down the gangs.
Otherwise, you will never find them and might risk the lives of innocent service men.

  • The police could use drones to find this group of people.
The Asian logger earlier paid ransom K300000 thus setting precedent for others to try for quick money too.

  • The government should take this matter into serious consideration and apply neccessary security measures under our defense act as soon as possible.

We must weed out the bad while they are still sprouting. The bad weeds cannot control our garden of revenue. If we cannot control this situation today, then our government will be dealing with one Abu Saiyap tomorrow.

  • em nau, why did the asians pay the ransom at the first place, they did set a precedence so find now is the time to find those people and eliminate them in the bushes and let the wild animals feed on their corpses, ol die nambaut bai sun stop lo shine na traipla guria bai kamap na economy ba collapse ha.

  • Kanex Kanarepa, we have blind people in this Nation, these group of people known as Lawless people in this Nation, are smarter than those who think are smart, their lawless is bringing a lot of changes into this nation, we should understand the coin principle, if you see lawlessness, on the other side is righteousness, you will never ever see righteousness, if there is no lawlessness, the coin principle is there for a reason. If we don’t understand this, we will be stagnant forever….

    • Very true Joe. This is the way we all should assess and see any given situation or issues facing our nation today.
Everything happens for a reason. The cause end effect factor. Good things happen out of bad situations.

  • Bad things happen because people are disorganized until when they come to their senses than they organised themselves, in this instance this people are disorganized, lawlessness and righteousness don’t blend together, its just that they are ignorant and diorganised that is why they become lawless until when sense comes into your freaking brains than they can change for the better, just like the prodigal son, God did not change him, he came to his senses and realized that everything was provided for him and he wanted to become diorganise and as such he found life very difficult and only saw the light when he came to his senses, the bible says my people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge, you dont have to be lawless to later become righteous.
