Army commended for helping police maintain law and order

DEFENCE Force officers engaged in the call-out operation in Southern Highlands, Hela and Enga have been commended for assisting police maintain law and order.
Acting Western Highlands provincial police commander Tim Korada said their presence had brought down the crime rate and order was gradually being restored.
“This teamwork is bringing changes to policing and this is a very good combined effort,” he said.
“Previously Mt Hagen city was facing crimes often and police were busy trying to deal with them.”
He said Mt Hagen was now the central command for the operation and the soldiers were helping police address law and order issues. “I’m very pleased to tell the people that the soldiers are doing a great job to help police in Western Highlands,” Korada said.
He said law and order problems were now manageable.
Korada urged everyone to take ownership of problems to make their job easy.
“This is what the members of the PNGDF are doing because they feel that they have a responsibility to play in Western Highlands,” he said.
