Assault claims on Bangladeshi exaggerated, says Kennedy

THE assault of a detainee at the Bomana Immigration Centre has been labelled “overly exaggerated and that he is merely seeking attention” as efforts are underway to deport him.
Acting chief migration officer Robert Kennedy told The National that Summon Hussain, from Bangladesh, was taken to the hospital in November after being brought in by the Bomana Immigration Centre’s taskforce.
He had a painful right leg.
“He was detained by the now disbanded taskforce team for residing in the country without a valid passport and visa,” Kennedy said.
“After he was found to be drunk with two other nationals, he was brought to the centre and taken to Port Moresby General Hospital complaining of aches and pains.
“The visit indicated no broken arms or legs as alleged.”
“He is now still in the centre and has no broken bones.”
