A CHICKEN farmers association in Port Moresby wants to help farmers find markets.
Moresby Chicken Farmers Association chairman Ruben Kaingen said livestock experts from the National Agriculture Research Institute and Farmset attended a week-long training programme.
The association has 60 farmers from Port Moresby.
“They want us to find the market,” he said.
“Most of the participants are working fathers and mothers who cannot find the market to sell the chicken.
“Markets on the roadside are a risk (but) farmers just force ourselves to market there.
“This is the first gathering to get farmers to register with the association so that we secure a market and allow farmers to recognise their problems.
“This training is (to educate) people and farmers on how to look after chicken.
“It is to solve problems such as chicks dying after a few weeks.
“We are also trying to talk to all the big supermarkets and restaurants and some other places so that we can sell our chickens.”
