THE Port Moresby General Hospital has received an assistance of K200,000 to continue to provide healthcare to the people, thanks to the Malaysian Association of Papua New Guinea.
The association also gave K20,000 to the Operation Open Heart (OOH) 2019 that is going on at the hospital this week.
Hospital chief executive Dr Umesh Gupta said continued assistance provided by MAPNG over the years had a direct impact on patient care and this year’s contribution was vital.
Gupta said a 25-seater bus was donated by the association two years ago which ensured that staff were able to be on time to take care of the patients – thus having a direct impact on patient care.
He said the tuberculosis (TB) ward built by the association a year ago made the working environment much safer and had helped to reduced patient to staff cross-infection.
“Previously it was housed within the consultation clinic with non-TB patients and it was very crowded,” he said.
“No government in the world, especially in developing countries, can fully meet the demands of the budget and the needs of patients.
“It is through partnerships like this that budgets get augmented and we are able to continue to provide good services.”
MAPNG fundraising committee chairman Ivan Lu said they had supported the hospital for 18 years and OOH since 2006 and they were happy to continue.
