Association highlights ‘imbalance’

THE Bulolo Disabled Association says a high number of illiterate people are living with disability (PLWDs) in the district.
Association chairman Gibson Seseru said the imbalance showed that there was still an unequal participation of PLWDs.
He said the right to an education and employment should be made accessible to all citizens, regardless of gender, race or physical disability.
“We all should be given the right to attend school and seek employment without any discrimination from the people at the workplace and the communities we live in,” he said.
“But, there is still a high rate of illiterate people living with disabilities in Bulolo and around the country.
“PLWDs have been neglected over the years and many have passed on because of continuous neglect by relevant authorities, institutions and family members.
“I want to see PLWDs given equal opportunities in education to enable them to secure jobs, live normal lives and participate in community development programmes.
“They should look at our abilities, not our disabilities, to perform any work that an able-bodied person can do.”
Seseru said the Community Development Department would give K1.5 million to them to construct a new resource centre in Bulolo.
