THE Pepsi Motu-Koita West Netball Association is hoping to promote talent identification and player development following a restructure by Netball Papua New Guinea.
Association president Kori Toua-Navuru told The National that the restructure saw the formation of a middle-tier division where potential representative players were selected to compete for their respective regions at the provincial level.
She said the division was introduced in their competition this year and would serve as a base for players to represent Motu-Koita West in the district tournament.
“Our competition structure has changed where we’ve included a middle-tier division from which we select our players to compete in the Motu-Koita tournament and push to represent the National Capital District and even at the national level,” Toua-Navuru said.
“The players who I’ve spoken to, they are happy and they keep saying that because we’re affiliated to Netball PNG, it creates an avenue for them to be identified at a higher level.
“It’s new in netball throughout the country which is a directive from Netball PNG, so we’re hoping that we can use this for our players this year.”
She said the formation of the new division gave a new sense of purpose for players not only in urban centres but throughout the provinces and villages in the country.
The Motu Koita West Netball Association’s competition will see the knockouts and semifinals this month with the grand finals for all seven divisions set for April.
