THE Papua New Guinea Olympians Association (PNGOA) is inviting the country’s Olympians to celebrate Olympic Day on June 23.
Olympic Day is a global celebration of the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the modern Olympic movement by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894.
PNGOA is aiming to promote the positive values of friendship, excellence and respect.
PNGOA president Iammo Launa called on all former and current national athletes who had represented the country at the Olympic Games, to contact her for more information on their programmes and activities.
She can be reached via email ([email protected]) or through PNGOA’s Facebook page.
Launa said PNG so far had 62 Olympians who were eligible for World Olympians Association (WOA) membership.
They can do this by contacting her or directly online at www.olympians.org .
Out of the 62 Olympians from PNG, only seven have registered.
“I am encouraging all the Olympians to urgently register online using olympians.org before Sunday,” Launa said.
“Once registered, you will be issued a certificate and an Olympic pin to symbolise your WOA membership.
The PNG Olympic Committee is also organising a reunion of all the Olympians across the country which will be a first for the country and PNGOA.
“Certificates and pins will be presented,” Launa said.
