THE PNG-US Alumni Association launched its strategic plan 2022-2025 yesterday in Port Moresby to promote education, cultural and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
US deputy ambassador to PNG, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu Bernard Link said the plan was to collaborate and promote integral human and environmental sustainable development in PNG and the Pacific region.
He said during the celebration of the alumni’s 10th anniversary at the Port Moresby Nature Park: “We are looking into this plan, a framework to identify how to put our best foot forward over the years to come.
“So in a sense, we are looking at a road map and it will change depending on circumstances in resources.
“But by and large we know where we want to go.”
Link said the plan provided a solid and robust platform for the association with more than 400 members to address the challenges of growing the membership, expanding the coverage in terms of its membership and activities nationwide.
“The plan will provide a framework for new initiatives and taking advantage of opportunities for collaboration with other alumni associations in PNG, the Government, civil society organisations and private sector,” he said.
Link also confirmed a grant of US$10million (K34mil) grant from his government for the Pacific region to address international human trafficking.
Human trafficking is a concern for the US government.
