Papua New Guinea Family Health Association (PNGFHA) is expected to benefit from a NZ$7million (about K15mil) funding for sexual and reproductive healthcare from the New Zealand Government.
The funding is part of a total NZ$30million (aboout K63mil) for health projects in the Pacific that would be given to International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), of which PNGFHA is a member.
President of PNGFHA board Nellie McLay said that funding would go directly to the IPPF sub-regional office in Suva, Fiji, then distributed to the various Pacific member associations.
“Talks in Fiji will determine how much PNG will benefit, but it will go towards supporting our work with sexual reproductive health issues throughout the four project sites; Port Moresby, Lae, Rabaul and Goroka,” she said.
“We provide normal clinical services to complement the health services of the National Department of Health (NDOH), we also provide sexual and reproductive health services through offering contraceptives; gender based violence awareness and youth empowerment.
