THE Tatana Volleyball Association will open a trust account for their strategic development plans, tournament director George Daera and president Opao Udia said.
Daera said the association had raised K36,000 from sponsorships during the Nick and Boni Allan Cup and should plan for the future rather than spending all the money.
This is the first of its kind since the association was formed.
He said Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Michael Malabag had allocated K20,000 and Bena Construction, through owners Nick and Boni Allan, gave K10,000 as well as support from other minor sponsors.
Daera said Malabag’s presence and funding was the first from a politician to the association.
He thanked him for his continued support.
He said the association and its players found it hard to attend national championships, international and PNG games when selected.
“Besides that we should have a junior programme, especially to upskill, train and develop our many potential talents as the base for the association,” Daera said.
Udia said it was a step in the right direction to ensure that players benefited through the trust fund.
