THE PNG National Airline Employees Association (PNGNAEA) and the PNG Flight Attendants Association (PNGFAA) announced their intent to merge yesterday.
Officials of both associations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the announcement.
PNGNAEA general-secretary Edward Foe said the MoU was to forge the way for the amalgamation of both associations.
“This amalgamation has been in the thoughts of airline workers and the trade union movement for a long time,” he said.
“Today, we’d like to put on record and make aware that the two organisations are amalgamating now.”
PNGFAA president John Randolph said they had been considering the amalgamation over the last 25 years but it had not eventuated until now.
“Today, it is a milestone for us, the FAA and NAEA to come together to sign a memorandum of agreement (MoA) which is the initial stage where we will be progressing to amalgamating,” he said.
