ATHLETICS Papua New Guinea (APNG) ended a busy year by staging courses for coaches and administrators in Port Moresby last week.
With many team officials and association representatives in Port Moresby for the PNG Air National Athletics Championships, APNG took the opportunity to offer an Oceania Sports Education Programme (Osep) administrative course and an Oceania Basic Athletics Scheme (Obas) coaching course.
Nineteen participants attended the coaching course and 12 attended the administrative course.
“Such courses are not available in most smaller centres so it seemed a good idea to provide this opportunity whilst our coaches and administrators were visiting Port Moresby,” Obas course coordinator and APNG board member Malcolm Limbai said.
“Unfortunately, some intending participants did not make it to Port Moresby due to funding shortfalls, however, 19 was still a good number.”
Head middle and long distance coach Bernard Manau led the delivery of the coaching course with the assistance of Philip Kamane, Limbai and Frank Koibu.
The administrative course was facilitated and delivered by the PNG Olympic Committee’s (PNGOC) team of Osep-accredited lecturers led by Alu Ravusiro, Rose Launch, Andrew Molen and Toua Udia.
APNG president Tony Green thanked Ravusiro and PNGOC for their support in delivering the courses and pledged to work with them to provide further courses in different parts of the country next year.
