MOROBE Deputy Governor Morokoi Gaiwata has joined other leaders in Lae in condemning the violent attack on a family and other mourners at 3-Mile in Lae last week.

The coffin of their dead relative was partly burnt during the attack by a group of men reportedly from Enga.

Gaiwata described the culprits as “worse than animals” and called on Lae metropolitan police commander Supt Iven Lakatani to ensure they faced the full force of the law.

Lae city manager Roy Kamen also called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

“This is a barbaric act which happened for the first time in Lae and, as the city manager, I am not happy and condemn this in the strongest term,” he said.

Secretary of the Morobe Independent Justice Association Chris Gaia called on Engan leaders in Lae to control trouble-makers in their community, saying such incidents could lead to more ethnic violence in the city.
