A MAN, who missed several court appearances, told a magistrate that the reason for his non-appearance was because he had been out of the country.
Alywn Jonah Polube, 21, of mixed Papua New Guinean (Manus) and the Solomon Islands, was charged with attempted murder, after he allegedly tried to stab a man in the neck.
He appeared before Magistrate Garry Unjo yesterday in the Waigani Committal Court.
The victim, Karl Arek, tried to stop a fight involving Polube at the PNG Customs flats car park at Tokarara, Port Moresby, and was allegedly attacked in the process. The incident happened on Dec 13, 2018, between 2am and 3am where Polube had fought with another man.
Police alleged that Arek was trying to mediate the altercation but Polube stabbed him in the neck with a small knife.
Arek was taken to Port Moresby General Hospital by his family and spent time in the hospital recovering.
The matter was followed up on Dec 29, 2019, and Polube was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder.
The matter was adjourned to July 24 while Polube is out on K1,000 bail.
