Auditor-general’s office ought to be on top of things

I READ with interest on the challenges that the auditor-general’s office is facing in regard to keeping up-to-date with auditing the district services improvement programme (DSIP) accounts.

This agency plays a big role in ensuring the public funds are used appropriately as sanctioned.

The auditor-general’s report is the primary source of information through which leaders and subjects know whether resources have been used for intended purposes or otherwise.

I suggest staffing in the auditor-general’s office be beefed up and more resources given to address the issues at hand.

If not, farm out auditing functions to external professional organisations as  a viable option.

Whatever the case may be, the AG’s office needs

to be on top of the work to be done to resonate with the high level of DSIP funding by the government.
