AUSAID has allocated K3.9 million to the PNG government as part of a capacity development agreement.

The agreement signed yesterday between the government and the AusAID-funded economic and public sector programme is to “support the core roles of the department in providing assistance in the development of public policy, performance monitoring, policy coordination and the drafting of legislation”.

It is a tripartite agreement between the Prime Minister’s Department and national executive council, the EPSP programme management group and AusAID.

Chief Secretary to government Manasupe Zurenuoc said the signing signified the important partnership between the two governments.

“The PM’s department and NEC provide an important link between the executive government and the public service.

“This agreement contributes to the department’s strategic priorities, strengthening local capacities and ultimately to service delivery to our people,” Zurenuoc said.

Head of AusAID in PNG Stuart Schaefer said Australia was ready to support the needs of the PNG public sector.

“At the request of the PNG government, we look forward to work together to strengthen key systems and processes.”
