DARREN Hayes of Australia is the new adviser to the Office of Public Curator and Official Trustee of Papua New Guinea.

Hayes was welcomed to his new role last Friday by Public Curator Jacob Popuna,  secretary of Department of Justice and Attorney-General Dr Lawrence Kalinoe, team leader PNG-Australia Law and Justice Partnership Bruce Kelly, other dignitaries and staff of public curator’s office in Port Moresby.

Popuna said it was a first initiative the office had taken under the relationship and support of the two governments PNG and Australia in provision of service delivery.

“The initiative will enhance service delivery for PNG citizens and strengthen our relationship with Australia.

“Advisory is an important element because the office performs a challenging task in interpreting and executing the mind of a deceased.

“The challenges may be influenced by the multi-cultural system, polygamous traditions and least recognition of power of ‘will-making’.

Kalinoe pledged the department’s support in strengthening the existing force as well as welcoming the new initiative that was significant for progressive results.

Kelly said on behalf of the Australian government the initiative was to help the office achieve its objectives.
